The poems and stories in this book make me wonder about deep and enchanting mysteries of imagination, faraway places I’ve glimpsed in dreams, and miracles that could be hiding right under my nose. With fascinating imagery, Michael Mark offers a potpourri of spirituality, science, psychedelic brilliance, and humor that made me laugh out loud several times. Some of my favorite parts involved the adventures with Michael’s wise friend, Hafiz, who I first thought was imaginary, but who knows? The author is a “cosmic stunt man” with a way of sneaking up on revelations of quiet magnificence transcending the ordinary to make infinity seem right at our fingertips. His words brought me insight, delight, and ultimately, comfort, like coming home to myself in a new way with excitement for the possibilities. I know Michael through his blog on WordPress. He sent me this book as a gift quite a while ago asking nothing in return. Some of the poems took me time to process, and I believe I came back to finish the book when I was ready to receive it's wisdom. I will keep this treasure nearby for times when I need a smile or to transcend into the extraordinary.Product details

I was given a paperback copy of this book some good while ago, and have only just finished reading all seventy of the individual works contained within. The author appears to hold a largely syncretic vision of religious understanding, although somehow the term 'religious' fails to identify the deeper meanings contained within Mark's work, and which themselves seem more like ontological understandings, perhaps - they being here a series of metaphorical, allegorical, analogous pointings to the ineffable nature of what it is to be a human beyond the appearances of the mind's representations. Syncretism can have its failings, and certainly has its fair share of detractors, but I would urge readers not to be put off by such an approach in this instance. Those of a Buddhistic leaning, such as myself, or non-theistic leanings more generally, may at first baulk at the auto-suggestive and implicit teleological connotations within references to 'Christ', 'Jesus', 'God', 'Divine', 'Holy', 'Sacred', and so on. This would be a mistake in respect to this particular work, and it is clear that Mark's vision reaches well beyond the horizon of specific doctrines or traditions, be they teleological or otherwise. I read this book as a companion to Thomas Merton's translation of The Way of Chuang Tzu, and the two complement each other very well. As with many of Chuang Tzu's pieces, Mark's can be read at a simple anecdotal level, though nonetheless inviting deeper pondering. Here is where Mark excels, in my view, and here also is the reason why I took my time absorbing the full volume - each piece contains profound understandings that take time and a contemplative spirit to unveil. A reviewer on the back cover describes Mark's pieces as orisons, and as with all forms of prayer or meditation, one needs to fully absorb into the words and imagery for their power to transmit to the higher mind, so to speak, and to do so to best effect. Ultimately, and given this proviso, then readers will be richly rewarded for slowly, deliberately, and contemplatively working through each of the seventy pieces, perhaps at the rate of one a day, and at the end of the day. I found this approach to be very effective, then allowing the sleeping mind to weave together less obvious connections than it does in its waking state. Spiritual mystery and the apprehending of what Mark terms 'Love' cannot be actualised directly in thought alone, in mere verbal constructs; but words, when arranged from the highest understanding, can act as signposts for the receptive, asleep-yet-awake mind. Try it; it worked for me, and with Mark's guidance you may find the same is true for yourself.
Michael Mark's poetry is mystical, phantasmagorical and highly creative. Propelled by spirit, Mark's poems take you on love's journey through life. Rich in imagery, they will transport you to a higher place. As a poet of sorts myself, I marvel at so many of his lines. They are inspirational and definitely worth reading, leaving you with the desire to be more spiritual in your own life. Do yourself a favor and buy it for a rich read before bed at night to travel to Mark's higher consciousness.
I was gifted this book by the author who I do not personally know. The first thing I must say is that it has become a sacred piece of writing that is a companion to my life. When questions leave me stumped or I find myself in need of a conversation with a friend, I open the book randomly and the right passage always seems to find its way to my fingertips. If I had to pick a favorite passage, which I might add is so very hard to do, page 24 Trap Door is the one I have re-read at least thirty times in the last few months. This is a book that takes you on an almost magical journey, almost as if you are there in the company of special friends learning, laughing and just being together as a tribe. If you know someone who needs a boost of happiness and you want to be remembered for changing their life in a beautiful and meaningful way, send them this book. I tend to read books and pass them on, but in this case, I will have to decline. Dog eared and now well worn, it is my door into a land of light and love. I take the gifts I learn there and live them. Life changing and inspirational. I highly recommend it.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written book of poetry (prose). They were all very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. Not something I normally read but I enjoy something different. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
